Preserving the history of the parish of Sleat on the Isle of Skye

Capisdale

Capisdal - This farm was combined with the farm of Tormore in c 1803.Before that it had been let to several tenants but they had refused to pay a higher rent demanded by the Macdonald estate. Many of the tenants emigrated to North Carolina instead. Others, such as the MacSweens, were given crofts elsewhere. A shepherd lived here for many years. A fank was built near the southern half of the old settlement. One of the Aird peat banks was at Capisdale.
