Carradale Caradail (copse or copse wood dale) - In the 18th century, Caradale was part of the farm of Aird as shown on the map dated 1763 in the Macdonald Estate Papers. The census records show several families living here in the 19th century, but it was not set out to crofts until 1850. There were 8 new crofts. The tenants came from Achnacloich, Aird, Sasaig and Point of Sleat as well as two families already living in Carradale. The township was cleared in 1879 - the reason, as given in evidence to the Napier Commission, that it was too far from any of the schools in the parish.
