Preserving the history of the parish of Sleat on the Isle of Skye

Sleat Map

The image depicts a hand drawn map showing the main townships in the parish of Sleat. Names in bold still exist. Names in italics  no longer exist as settlements as they were either cleared or abandoned. Please click on the map to see a larger picture.

You can find a comprehensive collection of Sleat place names of the Common Eachdraidh Shlèite Place-names Projects in Google Earth, a project undertaken initially by Coinneach MacManus, on behalf of the Society in 1994. In recent years, Charles Culbertson transferred his work to the online map.

Townships in Sleat Map

This interactive Google map, which includes a satellite view of the parish, has a marker for each township, most of them including a link to the information we have on each one.

Click on the pointers to see specific info about each township, or on the legend icon to see the full list.

Pointers in blue mark inhabited townships, the orange ones were abondoned and are not there anymore.
